Having got his autograph I wanted to find out more about the legend of Nobby Stiles.

Stiles was selected for the England squad which contested the 1968 European Championships but the holding role in midfield had been taken by Alan Mullery. England went out in the semi finals, during which Mullery became the first ever England player to be sent off. Stiles was recalled for the otherwise meaningless third place play-off game against the USSR but it was clear that despite his misfortune, Mullery was now first choice for Ramsey.

Stiles scored 19 goals for Manchester United. He was then sold to Middlesbrough for 20,000 pounds! A couple of years later, he became a player-coach at Preston North End when Bobby Charlton - whose autograph I also have on my program! - was manager. This did not work out for Charlton, and Stiles ended up as manager from 1977.

So what a piece of history I have for my auction!
Just been doing a bit more research on the legend's that gave their autographs to my program. Sir Bobby Charlton and Nobby Stiles were of course the only Englishmen to have won both the World and the European Cups. They were team mates when England beat Germany in the World Cup Final in 1966 and again when Manchester United beat Benica to become European champions in 1968.
With Graeme Souness and the great Glenn Hoddle also adding their names to my program I'm sure this piece of football memorabilia will appeal to collectors!

Autographs of Football Legends!

I was lucky enough to attend the Football Hall of Fame Awards on Thursday 15th November.
What a night! Football's megastars were there - both legends of yesteryear and today's stars - including Nobby Stiles, Glenn Hoddle, Mark Hughes and Graeme Souness. Previous inductees into this world class hall of fame were also there including Sir Bobby Charlton. The event was at Manchester Uniteds Old Trafford stadium and was truly a night to remember.
Football fan though I am, I was excited by tales of previous guests of the event selling autographed programs from this National Football Museum event for hundreds of pounds! I couldn't resist this experiement then - I started tracking down the likes of Sir Bobby Charlton, Nobby Stiles and Graeme Souness for their autographs! They were all perfect gentlemen and signed my program - giving me the opportunity to auction this incredibly rare item and see how much I can raise. Having two of Manchester United's Busby Babes on the one item of football memorabilia must mean this is worth a fortune to a collector - Bobby Charlton and Nobby Stiles were true gents to sign this.
My thanks to all those who made this a great night. I am donating a percentage of the sale to Sport Relief and depending on how much I raise will look at other woprthy charities to contribte to. The item is listed here on Ebay for 10 days
